    Ann Arbor International Baccalaureate Website

    The Ann Arbor Public Schools is pleased to the announce the following official candidate International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools:

    Students enrolled at Mitchell, Scarlett and Huron - and those who apply to come from within Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, and surrounding counties - will participate in schooling emphasizing:

    • Inquiry - students asking questions, students finding answers;
    • Global awareness - connecting to the local, state, national and international community;
    • Action and Service - learning by doing, making a positive impact;
    • World languages - all students learning a world language;
    • Access and Equity - intentional development of curriculum and supports connected to the needs of learners.

    During the 2016-17 school year, the IB candidate schools listed above will work towards becoming IB World Schools. In doing this the schools develop and implement a research-based curriculum that takes into account the local, national and international community.

    We are looking forward to this transformational journey leading to IB World School opportunities right in the Ann Arbor Public Schools.

      1. Dates for Primary Years Programme at Mitchell
        • January 24, 6:30-7:30 PM - Learn About IB at Mitchell and in Ann Arbor - An information session new families interested in exploring PreK-12th grade International Baccalaureate opportunities in Ann Arbor starting with the Primary Years Programme at Mitchell. We will also share basic information about the Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme in Ann Arbor.
        • February 21, 6 PM - Kindergarten Round Up. This session will focus on students transitioning into the Mitchell PYP kindergarten program as well as enrollment information.
        • April 25, 6:30-7:30 PM - Learn About IB at Mitchell - An information session new families interested in exploring PreK-12th grade International Baccalaureate opportunities in Ann Arbor starting with the Primary Years Programme at Mitchell. We will also share basic information about the Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme in Ann Arbor.
      2. Dates for Middle Years Programme at Scarlett
        • January 12, 6 - 7:30 PM - Learn About IB at Scarlett - An information night for new families interesting in exploring/coming to the IB Middle Years Programme at Scarlett.  We will also share basic information about the Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme in Ann Arbor.
        • Late Feb/ Early March, TBD - Scarlett principals visit elementary schools
        • March 29, 6 - 8 PM - In-coming 6th Grade and New Family Orientation (for current 5th grade families) - An evening for incoming 6th grade students and families nterested in exploring PreK-12th grade International Baccalaureate opportunities in Ann Arbor starting with the Middle Years Programme at Scarlett. We will also share basic information about the Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme at Huron High School.   
        • April 11, 6 - 7:30 PM - Learn About IB at Scarlett - An information night for new families interesting in exploring/coming to the IB Middle Years Programme at Scarlett.  We will also share basic information about the Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme in Ann Arbor.
        • May 10, noon - 3 PM, 5th graders to visit Scarlet
      3. Dates for Middle Years Programme at Huron
        • January 11, 6 - 7 PM - MYP Personal Project Trial Information Meeting - for class of 2019 (current 10th grade families). This meeting is geared towards current 10th grade students who would like to “try” the Personal Project as part of their 10th grade year. Students and families who attend will learn about the Personal Project, how it connects to their future DP experience, and the timeline for the trial experience.
        • January 11, 7:30 - 8:30 PM - MYP Personal Project Information NIght @ Huron - for class of 2020 (current 9th grade families). This meeting is geared towards current 9th grade students to learn about the Personal Project as part of their 10th grade year beginning the fall of 2017. Students and families who attend will learn about the Personal Project in connection to showing their learning around a self-selected, self-directed topic of choice.  This is going to be very exciting for our community.
        • January 10 - 13 @ various times - Huron principals and teachers to visit middle schools to meet with 8th graders
        • February 2 2017 - In-coming 9th Grade Family Orientation @ Huron - for class of 2021 (current 8th grade families). An evening for incoming 9th grade students and families interested in exploring International Baccalaureate opportunities at Huron with the Middle Years Programme in 9th and 10th grade and the Diploma Programme in 11th and 12th grade.
        • May 10, 2017, TBD - Personal Project Exhibition Night - a night where 10th graders who participate in the Personal Project trial will present their findings
      4. Dates for Diploma Programme at Huron
        • November 1 and December 8, 6:30 PM @ Huron - Overview of DP at Huron (choose one, same information both nights)
        • January 18, 6 - 9 PM Diploma Programme Registration Night @ Huron


    note: Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (ibo.org) may offer any of its academic programs:  the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career Programme (CP).  Candidate status does not guarantee that authorization will be granted.
