Dear Haisley Families (and visitors to our site),

It is an honor and joy to serve as principal of Haisley Elementary School.  This is a community of highly engaged, committed families and staff, exceptional and experienced teachers, and bright, creative students.

Let me share a little bit about myself. I graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Education and earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University. I worked in Atlanta and Detroit before moving to Ann Arbor, beginning my work at Wines Elementary School and continuing at Mitchell Elementary to support the implementation of the International Baccalaureate framework. My classroom experience includes teaching kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and technology as a special.  My leadership experience includes coaching and consulting for several districts, training teachers as a district Curriculum and Instruction Specialist and a Literacy Specialist with the Balanced Literacy Project, and developing and coordinating educational programs and partnerships within and beyond the district. I've served as Literacy Coordinator for Ann Arbor Public School's Summer Learning Institute and as a member of the district's Assessment Advisory and Teacher Evaluation Advisory.  Serving students, families, and teachers in a greater capacity has been my mission, and I’m thrilled to serve the Haisley community as an educational leader and partner.

There is no greater purpose than to work for the success and wellbeing of children. I believe that school should be a place of joy, curiosity, engagement, and growth. It’s a place where every child should be nurtured and their social, emotional, and academic needs met by caring, committed staff. I also believe that trust, respect, and caring are foundational to the success of schools and the achievement of students. Building relationships with staff, students, and families is an important and critical element to this success. It’s also such a rewarding part of this job! In addition to my commitment to these values, I bring a set of skills and knowledge around literacy development, analyzing and using data to inform practice, and a focus on high quality teaching and learning experiences that are rooted in research-based, best practices. I aim to contribute to and support the great work being done at Haisley and to collaborate with students, staff, and families to strengthen our mission and vision here.

Sincerely,
Kelly House
