Passionate about educating ALL students, Mrs. Heyward has worked in the field of education since 1999. Mrs. Heyward began her career in Detroit, Michigan as a 4thand 5th grade classroom teacher at Eastside Vicariate Elementary & Middle School. Later educating students in grades 5th through 7th at Commonwealth Community Development Academy in Detroit, Mrs. Heyward was awarded the prestigious honor of Teacher of the Year in 2002-2003.
Mrs. Heyward has been employed with the Ann Arbor Public School district for 13 years. She has worked as a teacher and currently serves as the principal of Clifford E. Bryant School.
Mrs. Heyward is a graduate of the University of Detroit, Mercy, where she earned her BA in Elementary Studies; Marygrove College where she earned her Masters in the Art of Teaching; and Oakland University, where she earned her Education Specialist degree in Administrative Leadership. Mrs. Heyward is currently working on her Doctor of Education degree from the University of Michigan, Go Blue!
In 2014, Mrs. Heyward had the distinct honor of being named one of Michigan Chronicle’s Women of Excellence.
Mrs. Heyward enjoys spending time with her family, her students and staff, and being of service to the community.
Mrs. Heyward is dedicated to partnering with community agencies in an effort to support students, staff, and families. Some of those partnerships include: Bryant Community Center, Community Action Network, Costco, the M-Den, the University of Michigan School of Education and the Washtenaw Foster Grandparent Program.
