Dottie D. Davis began her teaching/coaching career in a small community in Byron, MI where she taught physical education/health, as well as, coaching varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball during the 1979-80 school year. After one year, in 1980, she was given the opportunity to teach and coach at Ann Arbor Huron and has never looked back!
While working on her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Health at Eastern Michigan University, her athletic career took off as well. Dottie was a standout student-athlete as she played volleyball, basketball, softball, and track. During her athletic tenure, she was elected captain and team leader in each sport.
As a P.E./Health teacher in her first 25 years of teaching, she empowered students to always do their best. During that time, she was elected department chair of the P.E./Health Department while coaching the varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball teams at Ann Arbor Huron. If this wasn’t enough to keep her busy, she decided to enter the field of administration!
For the last nine years, she has been the Director of Athletics as well as Assistant Principal in charge of the Physical Education, Health, Music, and Art programs. The Huron Sports program has produced countless District, Regional, and State Championship teams with 35 sports teams to govern!
Dottie’s love of athletics, as a player and coach, has resulted in her being inducted into the Ypsilanti High School Hall of Fame for her athletic abilities, Ann Arbor Huron’s Hall of Fame for coaching, Eastern Michigan University’s Hall of Fame for Athletics, the Michigan Softball Hall of Fame, and the United States Slowpitch Softball Hall of Fame for her softball prowess.
