Melita Alston has been an educator for the past fourteen years. She received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI and began her teaching career as a fourth grade teacher with Chicago Public Schools. After relocating back to Michigan, she worked in Detroit Public Schools, as an Elementary and Middle School Teacher. While teaching, she received a Master’s of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. Melita became an administrator while working at a K-8 charter school in Detroit, Michigan. She was a Math Instructional Facilitator, an Assistant Principal for two years and served as the Principal for five years. Currently, she works with Ann Arbor Public Schools as the proud Pattengill Elementary School Principal. In her spare time, she competitively races in 5Ks, 8Ks, and half-marathons, as well as enjoys traveling with her husband and two sons.
