All elementary schools in Ann Arbor offer one or two languages to our students beginning in Kindergarten or 3rd grade. Elementary languages include: Arabic, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.
The Ann Arbor Public Schools partners with the Teacher Education Program at the University of Michigan School of Education. This collaboration is the Ann Arbor Language Partnership (A2LP) which provides Spanish instruction in most elementary schools beginning in the 3rd grade.
The A2LP Spanish curriculum is based on outcomes reflected in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and Learning developed by the Council of Europe in conjunction with the European Union and used to structure/monitor language learning in most Asian, European and South American countries.
